Your library card is your key to the resources and services of the Lauderdale County Library. In addition to borrowing library materials, your card will let you reserve items, access our public computers, download digital media, search hundreds of electronic databases, and more.
How Do I Apply for a Library Card?
You may apply for a library card in person at the Library. First time Library cards are free to Lauderdale County Residents.
Photo ID is required and can be a State-issued Driver’s license or State-issued ID
You must present one of the following forms of identification:
- Photo ID + Utility bill, or rental/mortgage papers
- Photo ID + Pay stub w/current address
- Photo ID + Piece of mail postmarked within the last 30 days
- Photo ID + Voter’s Registration Card
Applications for children under 17 must be completed in person at the Library and require the signature of a parent or guardian.
How Do I Replace a Lost Library Card?
First, report your card as lost, either by phone (731) 635-1872, or in person at the library.
Please be aware that when you registered for your Library card you accepted responsibility for all items on the card, all use made of the card and all charges made against it until your card is reported lost. The Library must have a record of your card having been reported lost, or it is not considered lost.
The cost of replacing a lost library card is $2.00 for your 1st replacement and $5.00 for every replacement after that.
What Is a Password number?
When using certain Library services (such as checking your account online at TN R.E.A.D.S.) you may be asked to enter both your library card number (found on the back of your card underneath the barcode) and your password. When entering your library card number do not put spaces in. Your initial login password is USERPASS. After entering USERPASS you will be prompted to create a new password.
If you have forgotten your password and need it reset please contact the library.

REPLACEMENT CARDS $2.00 – $5.00
Fines of $5.00 or more will block patrons from checking out or using the public computers, including family-linked cards.
How do I request Library materials?
You may place requests with the assistance of a Library staff member.
All requests for Library materials are on a first come, first served basis and are subject to availability.
Once you receive notification that your item(s) are available, you have 3 days to pick them up before they are returned to circulation. Please collect all items being held for you at once.
How do I renew Library materials?
You can call (731)635-1872 to renew material by phone or come to the library in person. You may renew your items 3 times, providing another patron hasn’t requested the item. Note: Mi-Fi Hotspots, New Release Books, DVDs, and Blu-rays are not renewable.
Note: Borrowers remain responsible for any fines that may accumulate before an overdue item is renewed. We recommend that borrowers do not wait until the last minute before renewing an item, in the event it cannot be renewed.
As long as your account is in good standing, eligible materials may be renewed:
- In person
- By phone
When are materials considered late?
All Library materials must be returned on or before their due date. Initial due dates are listed on receipts received at checkout. Due dates extended through the renewal of eligible materials are available by phone or through new receipts issued for in-person.
Overdue materials may be subject to late fines.
Borrowing privileges are suspended for users who have fines over $5.00 (Including family-linked cards)
How do I accessing Library databases?
The Library offers access to many electronic databases on a variety of topics from the arts and humanities to science and technology available both in The Library and at home. Many of these databases include full-text articles, audio and video content, and resources in languages other than English. All Tennessee residents have free access to Tennessee Gov’t. websites such as T.E.L. (Tennessee Electronic Library), Transparent Language, and TN R.E.A.D.S.
Please note that many databases that can be accessed from outside the Library will still require you to enter your Library card number.
